The Reds have built a mighty lead at the top of the table having won 11 of their 13 league games.
Arne Slot’s tenure was suggested to need time to rebuild the club after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, but the Dutchman has hit the ground running.
Liverpool hold a nine point advantage to Arsenal and Chelsea after they compounded Manchester City to a sixth defeat in seven games in all competitions and opened up an 11 point gap to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Reds' title bid has grown with every game but Wright admitted his one major fear for their hopes.
the former England striker discussed the title race and revealed his belief that injuries to key players could be the only thing to derail Liverpool’s title bid.
Wright
It will only be injuries to key players now,”
“Not even the goalie, they don’t even have their main goalkeeper, but with the way (Caoimhin) Kelleher is playing, you wouldn’t believe Alisson can make better saves.
“You have to think to yourself, that’s the only thing. Even if they do have a mishap like (Nottingham) Forest, since then it’s been nothing, faultless.
“I believe they’ve kicked into a position now where you need to chase them, they need to lose three or four, I can’t see it.”
Liverpool have been no strangers to injury crises down the years, with 35 separate injures affecting 21 of their 26-man squad last season
While the current squad is far from injury free, with Alisson, Jota, Konate, Bradley, Chiesa and Tsimikas all out, the team hasn’t been largely affected.
The Reds biggest injury crisis came when they were top of the league after 14 games in the 2020/21 season.
A string of injuries to Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and a serious ACL problem for Virgil van Dijk saw Klopp’s options at the heart of defence ransacked as he had to rely on Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams at centre-back.
A horrific run of form in February and early March saw Liverpool lose six out of seven league games, only beating bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United, before a late surge
The strength of Liverpool’s squad is considerably greater this season with the injury problems Slot has had to contend with so far being easily managed.
However, a youthful looking bench with a number of fringe first-team players in the 2-0 win against Manchester City could soon look rather unsettling if injuries do begin to mount up.
