Jamie Carragher issued an on-air apology to Mohamed Salah following the Liverpool forward's perceived grievances.

Speaking directly into the camera during CBS Sports' broadcast, the former Liverpool defender declared: "Mo, I apologize."

The apology followed encouragement from fellow pundit Micah Richards, who urged his colleague to make amends after Carragher called Salah a "disgrace" for criticizing Liverpool and Arne Slot following Saturday's 3-3 draw against Leeds.

Salah was not involved in Liverpool's win against Inter after being dropped from the squad as a result of his comments.

Richards had asked Carragher: "Would you like to apologize to Mo, and just say sorry for any disrespect?

"It just comes from passion, you're a fan, go on, just say it down the lens."

Carragher replied: "Mo, I apologize, I've upset you. I love you as the Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch."

Responding to the gesture, Richards commented: "That’s fair, that looked very genuine."

Carragher had earlier branded the situation a circus and expressed his view that Salah wouldn't rejoin the squad ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash against Brighton before the Africa Cup of Nations. He stated: "I don't think so, to be honest.

"I don't know, sort of why you'd sort of almost bring the circus of it, whether he was on the bench, 'is he warming up?' - the supporters, I don't know, could it split the crowd and the manager and Mo?

"So I just think because there's only one more game before he goes away, I think it's probably better if he just does leave it for now and then see how the land lies when he's back from AFCON."

Carragher also views this as a chance for Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike to line up together for the first time.

Carragher stated: "And on the back, as well, of Liverpool performing well. The first time we've really seen Ekitike and Isak together.

"You'd think Wirtz'd start on Saturday as well at home to Brighton. I actually said a few weeks ago, Liverpool might have to build the team, while Mo Salah was at AFCON, for the future.

"Listen, for whatever reason, it's happened a couple of weeks before he's gone away to AFCON.

“But Liverpool were always going to have to find a way to get their big money signings in the team. It hasn't happened yet, where all three have started.

"So I think the game against Brighton is a great opportunity to play the two strikers. Play Wirtz behind the front. He was on the bench tonight. He did well when he came on.

"So I think it's the first time we might see that, and maybe what is the future of Liverpool in terms of going forward. Not just this season, probably over the next 18 months to two years."
