Caoimhin Kelleher is confident he can replace Alisson Becker as Liverpool's goalkeeper while the Brazilian recovers from injury.
Alisson pulled up with a muscle injury in the closing stages of last week's 1-1 draw with Manchester City
Kelleher stood in for Alisson on Thursday night as the Reds secured a place in the last 16 of the Europa League
With Kelleher expected to also feature away at Sheffield United on December 6 and possibly Crystal Palace three days later, the shot-stopper says he is ready to step up.
Kelleher
“Yeah [I can step up] it’s just what I’ve always trained for really,"
"I know it’s obviously been a long time [since I've been in the team], but I’m always training for that, to try and be ready and if something does happen to Ali – unfortunately something has – then I’m ready to go in and try to help the team get some more wins
“It was a good performance tonight and that gives me confidence to build on and hopefully I can back that up with another good performance on Sunday.
"In this league every game has become important and we can't slip up. It's going to be a tough test with Fulham coming here looking to cause an upset. We need to be ready for that.
“We’re trying to create that fortress again (at Anfield) and trying to win every game here.
"It is a really difficult place for teams to come and we are trying to use the crowd. We are just trying to create that fortress here and get more wins.
Kelleher added:
“I thought we were excellent going forward and could have had a lot more goals going forward, we created a lot of chances and looked really sharp.
“Obviously goals win games and it's massive for us. We scored four but created a lot more and it is always important to have that threat going forward and thankfully we have a lot of options and all of them can score goals.
“I think during the game they were a threat, albeit not hitting the target maybe in the first half, but I kind of knew they would create some chances and I was happy to make some saves and help the team."
