Ruben Amorim has refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with succeeding Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager
Amorim insisted his focus is on winning the Primeira Liga with Sporting CP.
On Friday, the 39-year-old emerged as the favourite to be appointed as the Reds' next manager after Xabi Alonso announced that he would be staying put
Reports in Portugal claim Liverpool would have to cough up a world-record fee of roughly £17m if they were to prise Amorim away
Amorim was asked about the links linking him with an end-of-season switch to Anfield.
However, the 39-year-old admitted he was 'very happy' in Lisbon and has not thought
about the possibility of managing elsewhere
Amorim
“Right now, I’m focused on Sporting. I’m very proud to be Sporting’s coach,"
“We’re focused on winning titles. You’ll see in the end. I have a contract and I’m very happy here.
“That’s the most important thing, more than contracts, I’m very happy here. The focus is on beating Benfica in the Portuguese Cup.”
Amorim, whose contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium runs until 2026, had only coached Braga for 13 matches before Sporting agreed to pay a compensation package of roughly €10m in March 2020
In 2021, Amorim guided Sporting to their first Primera Liga title triumph since 2002, as the Green and Whites suffered just one defeat in the 34-game season.
