Luke Chambers admits he realised a dream by making his full Liverpool debut – and now wants to help the Reds win the Europa League.
Chambers was handed the first start of his Anfield career in the 5-1 home romp over Toulouse on Thursday evening
Chambers revealed the message he was given Jurgen Klopp as he prepared for a landmark moment in his fledgling career.
Chambers
“He just said to enjoy it,”
"He said there was no pressure, just go out and play how I usually play.
“When did I find out I was playing? Yesterday in training. I went home and it didn’t really sink in at first, then this morning it kind of came to a bit of reality. It was good.
“I’ve dreamt of that moment since I was six years old. I’ve come through the ranks of the Academy, and as a boy growing up, going through the Academy, that’s your dream. It feels really good!”
Chambers added:
“We take this competition really seriously, so it’s all that we could have asked for. To get a 5-1 victory was a dream. It’s amazing.
“That should be our end goal, to win it. Definitely. I don’t see why not. And if I get more opportunities going forward then happy days.
“As a young player, that’s what you strive for, opportunities. I’m hungry for more, so hopefully more will come.”
Chambers revealed he had been given advice by senior left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas ahead of his first start, and said:
"Robbo and Kostas have been really good. I couldn’t have asked for better people to look up to. In training I learn a lot from them, so I can’t really go wrong!”
