Trent Alexander-Arnold shares view on VAR 'trust issues' and what Liverpool must do next

Trent Alexander-Arnold has insisted Liverpool have to put their disappointment aside and move on from their controversial defeat

The main talking point from the game was Luis Diaz incorrectly having a goal disallowed for offside after VAR failed to intervene, despite adjudging it to be a goal back at Stockley Park.

Jurgen Klopp has since declared that he believes the game should be replayed.

Trent has revealed that the Liverpool dressing room, although disappointed about Saturday’s result, are looking to move on

Trent

“What happened (on Saturday)?,” he joked when asked by reporters how the dressing room was feeling after the controversial defeat. “Yeah, we’ve spoken about things but our focus is on the game tomorrow now.

“Nothing we can do as players about what has gone. For us, it’s past. We now focus on a different competition and a big, big three points for what we want to achieve.

“I wouldn’t say (there are) trust issues (with VAR). I think decisions are decisions. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes they go against you.

"What happened on the weekend for us as players and a team is very disappointing and frustrating, but it’s over. There is nothing we can do as players now. The game is gone."

“We’ve just got to put it past us and move forwards. VAR is a system in place. It’s something that we can’t control as players. We’ve got to put our trust in the referees and the officials that use it and hope that they get the decisions.

“At times they don’t and at times they do. We just have to hope they get them right as often as possible.”

Trent continued:

"On Saturday it was an outstanding performance in the circumstances we were in. We are proud of what we done. We could have easily come away with a point there.

“Taking the circumstances and what actually happened and putting that aside, we lost the game. No matter what way that happens, you lose a game.

“Our motivation now is we’ve got two games before the international break comes. We want to and we feel like we need to win both of the games.

“It’ll be difficult to do so but we think we’re capable and feel we’re capable of doing that, so that’s where our focus is at.”
