Trent Alexander-Arnold Liverpool contract stance different to Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk

Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly more likely to sign a contract extension at Liverpool than Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk are all into the final year of their deals at Anfield and, as things stand, will be allowed to leave the club for free next summer.

That is a scenario that Liverpool obviously want to avoid, given all three players remain pivotal to the Reds under Arne Slot.

Logic dictates that Alexander-Arnold is probably the most likely of the three players to sign a contract extension, considering he came through the Reds' academy and is a boyhood fan.

Salah, meanwhile, joined Liverpool from Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window, while Van Dijk moved to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018.

There is also perhaps more merit in retaining Alexander-Arnold given his resale value is unlikely to dramatically decrease any time soon. Aged 25, Alexander-Arnold is seven years younger than Salah and eight years younger than Van Dijk.

Football Insider reports that Liverpool views Alexander-Arnold as a future captain of the team and the club is set to offer the right-back assurances over his role in the team.

Real Madrid is reportedly keeping tabs on the England defender's situation but Football Insider says he is in 'no rush' to leave Liverpool, and that he is more likely to sign an extension than his two older teammates.

Much of the discussion after Liverpool's win at Old Trafford before the international break centered around Salah post-match hint that this season will be his last as a Red.

Salah said: "I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it's my last year at the club.

"I just want to enjoy it and I don't want to think about it. I feel like I'm free to play football and then we'll see what happens next year."

However, it's believed that Salah's comments were misinterpreted, and rather than saying that this season will definitely be his last at the club, he was referencing the fact that he is into the last year of his current contract.
