Richard Keys has dismissed Liverpool as an "average" team and believes they are on track to win the worst Premier League in history.
The Reds stand 12 points clear of second-placed Arsenal with nine games remaining as they close in on a record-equalling 20th championship.
Keys, who now works for beIN SPORTS in Qatar after leaving Sky 14 years ago, has been a regular critic of Liverpool
Keys stated earlier in the season Slot would prove a "mini-me" version of fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by Manchester United in the autumn.
Keys said after Liverpool's defeat to Newcastle:
"I’ve had no idea all season how good this Liverpool team were. This week told us a lot. They’re average.
"They’re top for two reasons - they had a great start and because every other challenger went backwards. Slot has discovered English football isn’t so easy after all."
PSG head coach Luis Enrique and Brentford boss Thomas Frank are among many opposing managers to regard Liverpool as the best team in Europe this season
Keys said:
"There’s something very odd about the Premier League this season - the worst I can remember since the league was formed back in 1992.
"There hasn’t been a genuine challenger to Arne Slot’s team all season. Look. They’re top and deserve to be so.
“They’ve won it because they’ve been better than the rest. But there hasn’t really been a ‘rest’. There hasn’t been a test."
