Arne Slot has indicated Kostas Tsimikas is now in a straight fight with Andy Robertson for the left-back role
Tsimikas has started the last two games having come off the bench to create the equaliser for Diogo Jota at Nottingham Forest last week
Tsimikas initiated the move for Mohamed Salah's opener in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League win at home to Lille.
Robertson has struggled for consistent form this season but has nevertheless started 18 of Liverpool's 21 Premier League games
The Scotland international will be aiming to be restored in the starting line-up for the top-flight visit of struggling Ipswich Town
Tsimikas has already made 19 appearances this season, just six shy of his tally for the whole of a previous campaign
His Premier League start at Brentford last weekend was only his third in more than 12 months.
asked whether the increased rotation at left-back was a matter of managing workload or an improvement in the form of Tsimikas
Slot said:
"I think both. If Kostas was on a completely different level than Robbo then it would not be smart to rotate in that position or manage the load, as you would drop so far in quality that could be a risk.
"I don't know what Kostas's situation was last season, I know that he didn't play a lot but I don't know at what level he was at.
"But from the moment I came in, on the tour in the United States he did really well. He's proved that he can play in the left-back position as well.
"Since we have got now two good options in my opinion, you can see that we are managing loads and rotating in that position quite a bit."
