Liverpool's new sporting director Richard Hughes is closing in on his first appointment, with Bournemouth's chief scout Mark Burchill lined up to join the club.
Hughes, who was headhunted by Fenway Sports Group's new CEO of football, Michael Edwards, was formally confirmed on Wednesday
However, the newly-appointed Hughes has wasted little time shaping his staff at the AXA Training Centre with plans to bring Burchill with him
It's understood that Burchill's appointment will be in support of chief scout Barry Hunter and head of recruitment Dave Fallows
It's not yet known what Burchill job title will be but he is in talks to join the club's recruitment department on the recommendation of Hughes
Former Scotland striker Burchill played with Hughes at both international level and with Portsmouth
Burchillwill form part of a brand new structure at Anfield that will see Edwards replace FSG president Mike Gordon as the day-to-day runner of the club
The appointment furthers the reinvigoration of the football operations department that is set to lose assistant managers Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz alongside elite-development coach Vitor Matos and Klopp later this year.
Hughes said after his appointment was confirmed. "
“I am fully aware of the expectations and responsibilities that come with taking this position,"
"It will be my job, working with Michael [Edwards] and leading the football operations team already in place, plus the wider staff at the AXA Training Centre, to make good decisions."
“That’s really what the job entails: you have to make the kind of good decisions which enhance the prospects of having a team that wins and excites the supporters. It is what Liverpool have done well for a very long time and the benefits are there for everyone to see.”
