Liverpool were given a scare inside the first minute of their Premier League match with Fulham at Anfield on Saturday when Andy Robertson was left in a heap by Issa Diop
The Scot was left on the turf by a wild challenge from the Fulham defender in the penalty area.
Diop was shown a yellow card for the offence, despite some confusion inside the ground, with the offside flag saving Fulham from any further punishment.
But plenty of onlookers were left surprised that Diop didn't see red for the challenge, which was checked and cleared by VAR.
A statement released by the Premier League match centre confirmed that the referee Tony Harrington's decision was upheld by officials in Stockley Park.
It read: "The referee issued a yellow card to Diop for a challenge on Robertson. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of reckless challenge and yellow card."
Though a check was done on Diop's challenge, there was a strong belief among many that Pereira should have been sent off for his.
VAR was required on a number of occasions during Liverpool's chaotic Premier League clash against Fulham.
A total of nine cards were shown in total with seven coming even before the hour mark and just under half arriving in the first nine minutes.
"Judging by what was said in the week with the [Match Officials Mic'd Up] programme Howard [Webb] did, it was the same kind of challenge that Ndidi did on the back of Cole Palmer," Dean admitted on Sky Sports.
"He goes just above the Achilles and then scrapes down.
"He is nowhere near the ball. He knew what he was doing for me. It should have been a red card." Instead, it was Liverpool that were reduced to ten men with Andy Robertson sent off for denial of a goal-scoring opportunity after a poor touch saw him bring down Harry Wilson as he was bearing down on goal.
In response to the decision, the Premier League Match Centre wrote: "The referee issued a red card to Robertson for a foul on Wilson which denied a goal scoring opportunity. VAR checked to confirm the red card and that Wilson was in an onside position."
