Mohamed Salah admits he has not been happy with his season after helping Liverpool end their miserable Premier League run.

The champions avoided suffering a fifth successive top-flight loss for the first time since 1953 when they beat Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in first-half additional time after capitalising on a mistake from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before Ryan Ryan Gravenberch netted a deflected second shortly before the hour.

The Egyptian now has five goals for the season having last week ended a six-run game without a goal by netting in the 3-2 loss at Brentford.

And asked by TNT Sports after the win over Villa whether he was happy with his season,

Salah said: “No, but I know football. I have played football for many years.

“I said at the beginning it is a very tricky season for us, we have a few new players, very good signings, but they need time to adapt to the team and we lost a few good players as well.

“We just need time to adapt and know each other’s games and we will be fine.”

Salah’s goal was his 250th for Liverpool, becoming only the third player in the club’s history to reach the landmark after Roger Hunt and record scorer Ian Rush.

Salah Said:

It is a great feeling to score goals and win trophies for such a big club,”

“It is something I don’t take for granted, I am so proud. So happy about it.”

The win moved the Reds back into the top four ahead of a week in which Tuesday’s Champions League visit of Real Madrid is followed by a Premier League trip to title contenders Manchester City on Sunday before the final international break of the year.

And Salah said of the victory: “It was very important, we have had a few losses in the Premier League and the Champions League, but I am glad we started coming back now and it is a good result before some very important games against Madrid and City.

“It was a very important win for us today.”
