Liverpool is still attempting to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi but the La Liga side is desperate to keep at least one of its key players this summer
with Robin Le Normand having already joined Atletico Madrid and Mikel Merino drawing strong interest from Arsenal.
Last Friday, El Diario Vasco stated that the 25-year-old Reds target was expected to make a final decision on his future at the weekend.
But in Monday morning's edition of Mundo Deportivo, it is stated that Zubimendi still hasn’t worked out where he wants his future to be yet.
Zubimendi has a $66m (£51m/€60m) release clause. Liverpool is currently negotiating the terms of the deal
The Times has reported that Real Sociedad will push Zubimendi to pay his own release clause, as it is customary in Spain.
That would put more pressure on his decision and seemingly suggesting that it would have to be paid in full rather than in installments.
The player still has to make his final decision on whether to leave his boyhood club.
Zubimendi was pictured in training earlier today and he also featured in La Real's pre-season friendly against Union Berlin in Germany last Friday, coming off the bench for around 20 minutes.
Real Sociedad would be willing to offer Zubimendi a new and improved contract to keep him in Spain.
However, the potential transfer to Liverpool is not going to come down to money — the Reds would be able to offer more regardless
The Mundo Deportivo report adds that the European Championship winner has been aware of Liverpool’s interest for the past fortnight
This, though, is said to be the "decisive week" in which his final decision is expected.
Arne Slot has supposedly called the player to try and convince him to make the switch, while Zubimendi's decision is said to be coming in the next "hours or days".
La Real begin their La Liga campaign next weekend against Rayo Vallecano, by which time the player would like his decision to be confirmed.
