Luis Suarez has paid tribute to Liverpool after his former club’s Premier League title triumph, while also offering up some advice to Darwin Nunez as his fellow countryman looks set for an exit.
Suarez of course came close to lifting the title during his time at Anfield, with the Reds falling agonizingly short under Brendan Rodgers during the 2013/14 campaign.
The Uruguayan was a huge influence on the Reds almost ending their long wait for a top division crown, scoring 31 goals as part of a prolific front three along with Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
Now 38, Suarez is eyeing up becoming a world champion as he and Lionel Messi aim to upset the odds with Inter Miami at the Club World Cup.
Their campaign didn’t get off to the best of starts as they were held to a goalless draw by Egyptian side Al Ahly.
Ahead of that game, Suarez was asked about his former side’s triumph this year, with the former Barcelona star expressing his joy for Arne Slot’s team.
Suarez
"I'm so happy for Liverpool," he said. "They did really well the last few years. To win the Premier League after a few years is so nice for them."
Suarez was also asked about the future of his former international teammate, with Nunez looking as though he will be leaving Liverpool this summer.
A move for the 25-year-old looks inevitable, having failed to truly live up to the expectations that came with his big-money move from Benfica in 2022.
Atletico Madrid and Napoli have been linked, while a switch to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards, with Al-Hilal said to have already contacted Liverpool.
Suarez has been a staunch supporter of Nunez throughout his rollercoaster spell on Merseyside, although he doesn’t want to intrude on his compatriot’s career too much on this occasion.
Suarez said
"Every time, I try to help him but his decision is for himself,"
"He knows what he wants from football and what he wants for his future and his family."
