Liverpool vs Man United predictions made as Wayne Rooney, Chris Sutton and Roy Keane say same thing

The international break is finally over and what a game for Liverpool to come back to.

Yes, it was a miserable final week in the run-up to the second of three enforced stoppages in domestic football before the first half of the season is out.

For the first time in head coach Arne Slot's reign, the Reds lost three matches in a row.

And, while their Champions League defeat at Galatasaray was not damaging, their last-gasp Premier League losses at Crystal Palace and Chelsea handed Arsenal the chance to move clear at the top.

And that's exactly what the Gunners have done, following up their 2-0 home win over West Ham United with a 1-0 victory at Fulham to move four points clear of the defending champions.

How will Liverpool respond, then? Well, they certainly couldn't have asked for a bigger match to bounce back in.

Last season's runaway title winners welcome bitter-rivals Manchester United to Anfield today (4.30pm kick-off) looking to move back above Manchester City into second and within one point of the table-topping Gunners.

But how do the pundits see the heavyweight clash going? We've taken a look...

Wayne Rooney

"Just with Liverpool losing three games, I think that pride kicks in and the fans will know, the fans are not stupid, they know and will get behind the team and push them,"

"So for United, I think going there, if United come away with a point, I think that would be huge.

"I think the pressure for this game, I think purely because I don’t think United fans will be expecting three points in this game, where in other games they are.

"I think they’ll go in a say, if we can get a point we’ll be happy with that, where I think for Liverpool, if Liverpool lose four games in a row and they lose to Manchester United at Anfield, I think the pressure is definitely on Liverpool for this game."

Chris Sutton

"There are definitely reasons for Manchester United to be optimistic here.

"Liverpool have issues defensively, and their weakness at full-back might suit United's tactics. I can see Bryan Mbeumo causing Arne Slot's side all sorts of problems.

"My head is telling me that Ruben Amorim's side will get something at Anfield but I don't want to go for a draw, even though that's what I think will happen.

"I might go for a draw, but it is not in my nature to sit on the fence for a big game like this."

Paul Merson

"I thought Liverpool fully deserved to get beaten by Crystal Palace and Galatasaray. They must get back on track now.

"All three Liverpool defeats have come away from home, and now they return to Anfield.

“We all know Liverpool are a different beast on home turf, and Manchester United haven't been great on their travels.

"I don't think Liverpool will lose at home; they will snap out of this run. Manchester United will be lucky if they can walk away with something from Anfield."
