Harvey Elliott has been urged to leave Liverpool after an apparent ‘angry’ reaction following the Reds’ win over Newcastle United.

The England Under-21s international was an unused substitute against the Magpies as Arne Slot’s side won 2-0 to go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

While the 21-year-old made the second-most appearances in the Liverpool squad under Jurgen Klopp last season

The midfielder has been limited to 17 appearances so far this season, of which only 10 have come in the Premier League and only four have come from the start.

While a fractured foot sidelined him three months earlier in the campaign, he has been unable to force his way into Slot’s starting XI since his return in December.

He conceded a penalty on his last start against Plymouth Argyle at the start of the month as Liverpool suffered a shock FA Cup exit

Elliott has made just one stoppage-time substitute appearance (against Man City) since the Reds’ loss to the Pilgrims.

Left as an unused substitute for the 12th time this season against Newcastle, former Premier League winner Tim Sherwood has claimed that Elliott was visibly annoyed.

while he likes the midfielder’s attitude, he has urged him to leave Liverpool after being linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Brighton & Hove Albion earlier in the campaign

Sherwood

“The trouble is for players like Harvey Elliott, I watched him and I was really impressed with what I saw,”

“The other boys are coming onto the pitch.

“He’s made five subs there tonight, and still no Harvey Elliott and you know, he’s not happy.

“He sat there and his face was so angry and annoyed.

“I quite admire that. You know, that boy is not going to sit there and just not play.

“He will want to leave that football club, I know it’s a brilliant club if he can fight his way into the team, but if he’s not going to play on a regular basis.

“They’ve got players like that and you need players like that, who want to play and want to affect it.

“At the moment, a top-quality player like him is sitting there and he’s getting no game time.

“If you don’t play and listen, he would be happy picking up a trophy and a medal but in the end, he will want to contribute a lot more than what he’s done.”
