Stefan Bajcetic faces a race against time to feature for Liverpool in pre-season after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury.
Bajectic had an operation last month after suffering the problem towards the end of his loan spell at Las Palmas.
The Reds midfielder has already started his rehabilitation having gone under the knife after picking up the injury shortly after half-time during the Spanish side's defeat to Sevilla on May 15.
And Bajcetic now has a battle to return in time to play some part of pre-season with Liverpool boss Arne Slot willing to give the 20-year-old an opportunity if available.
The injury is the latest setback in a difficult few years for Bajcetic since breaking into the Liverpool first team during the 2022/23 season.
Having suffered an adductor injury in March 2023, Bajcetic made only two appearances in the next 14 months after his comeback was cut short by a calf problem.
The midfielder then featured in pre-season under new head coach Slot before being sent on loan to Red Bull Salzburg for a reunion with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
But after Lijnders was sacked, Bajectic saw his stay in Austria cut short before agreeing to spend the rest of the season back in Spain at Las Palmas, who were ultimately relegated from La Liga.
Bajcetic was this season recalled to the Spain under-21 side, but his hamstring operation means he will miss the UEFA European U21 Championships that start this week.
