Liverpool could be forced to make a move for Marc Guehi next month after he emerged as a leading target for Manchester City.

The Manchester Evening News is reporting that City have seen enough to put Guehi on a shortlist for next summer as they plan changes in their defence.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season, having almost joined Liverpool back in September.

A £35million move to Anfield collapsed on deadline day when Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish pulled the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour after failing to secure a replacement.

The Reds remain interested in the defender, though it remains to be seen if they will revisit their interest in January.

Guehi is also expected to have tempting offers from abroad, with Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid among the clubs credited with interest

Asked about the failed move to Liverpoolearlier this month, Guehi said: "I think everyone has this perception that it was difficult.

Actually, it wasn't difficult. It wasn't difficult at all. Because when you're focused on what's the most important thing, it becomes easy.

"I know that God has a plan for me, and whatever that plan will be, will come into fruition at some point.

“But the goal and the focus has always been playing football and trying to do the best I can. And fortunately for me, I get to to it with people like Max (Lacroix)."

Before Guehi added: "We have faith in Jesus Christ. And it's about exercising our faith. And as he said, even at the beginning, it was tough, but thankfully we continue doing that type of stuff.

“Continue praying. Continued having that fellowship with each other and the results”

"But it's not even about that. It's about just being together with your brothers, and showing that faith and showing that we want to play for his glory.

"And given all the glory and everything that we do. Whether the things are going well or not, doing the same. So it's important that we just carry on doing what we are doing."

Palace chief Parish has also already hinted at further sales at Selhurst Park despite the Eagles being on course for a second successive European qualification.

"We've got one eye on players who we might have to replace in the summer,"

"We're not going to throw it all on red and have a massive problem.”

“Unless you want to be in a situation where you're constantly putting in money every year, there's a cash limit to what you can spend. You can't spend money you don't have.

"You have to have some guardrails as a club, or you'll build up big problems down the track. Everyone saw where prices went in the summer; it's a difficult landscape.

"There wasn't the right thing available at the right time when the finances were in place. There's no point in doing something for the sake of it.

“How are you going to get someone to come and tell them they are No.1 in Ebs [Eze] position if you still have him?

“The one where we didn't, with Marc [Guehi], we kept him. You can’t always make happen what you want to.

“We are where we are in the pecking order; you could ask why other clubs make bids for our players two weeks before the end of the window. I don’t know why they did that."
