Liverpool could earn millions from sell-on clause as transfer edges closer to completion

This summer, Morton starred for England U21s at the European Championship alongside Harvey Elliott.

He assisted the winning goal in the final against Germany, crossing for Jonathan Rowe to head home in extra time.

West Ham United and others have been linked with Morton, but a move to France looks to be a good option for the 22-year-old, who was born in Wallasey.

According to the ECHO, Liverpool has negotiated a 20 per cent sell on clause.

Morton made a senior breakthrough at Liverpool in the 2021-22 season under Jurgen Klopp.

With the German at the helm, he made his debut in a Carabao Cup tie at Norwich City.

He was also one of those to beat AC Milan at San Siro in the Champions League in a much-changed team. In total, he has made 14 appearances for Liverpool'ssenior side.

Morton impressed in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers in 2022-23, making 46 appearances in all competitions.

He then went out on loan again in the early stages of the following season, joining Hull City.

He featured 41 times for the Tigers in all competitions and scored three goals.

Last summer, he had interest from clubs in Germany and Italy, but ended up staying put.

Now, with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister for competition at Anfield, it is best for Morton to move on in search of regular game time.

"Obviously, I've coped with it very well because I've got good people around me, but it's been very tough.

"I think I've coped with it as well as I possibly could. I think when you're not playing as a footballer who's as hungry as I am, it does hurt.

“It's tough, especially when, in my opinion, I wanted to go out and I wanted to play and I wanted to go on loan and get my game time.”

“But having chatted with the manager, having to stay, it could have worked out a lot worse than it did. It probably could have worked out a lot better than it did."
