Klopp believes Alexis Mac Allister was relieved to be substituted after a nightmare first half at Wolves
Klopp hailed a “statement” performance from Liverpool debutant Jarell Quansah.
Mac Allister, who only returned to training on Friday after featuring for Argentina in their recent World Cup qualifiers, was hugely out of sorts
The summer signing was replaced at half-time by Luis Diaz with the Reds 1-0 down
Klopp said:
“He was done. Yellow card and he was exhausted in the first half already.
"We know how good Alexis is, in the first half his decision-making... we saw during the week when he had the oxygen mask on, I thought a couple of times (in the first half) they should have left it on a little bit longer – that would have helped maybe!
“It was just tough. When you’re in a game like this, it’s pretty likely you’ll come to a challenge a bit too late and then you have the second yellow and that’s it. That’s all.
“He had good moments in the first half. But he had some other moments as well and you could see them. He was not really disappointed when we took him off. I think he was rather relieved.”
Klopp added:
"He (Quansah) did well. He did really well, he was really good. It was a wonderful experience for him. He came on (previously) in very decisive moments, it’s not like he came on to close games. We had to do something there and today he was good.
“In such a disorganised team like we were in the first half, he was the one who looked kind of all right. That is a statement, absolutely. I’m really happy for him. He is pretty happy in the moment as well. He is a good boy.”
