Jurgen Klopp expects 'exceptional' Liverpool star to go up a level after Tottenham masterclass

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott can take inspiration from his brilliant goal after an “exceptional” performance

Elliott capped an excellent individual showing by thumping in a 20-yard effort

The 21-year-old – making only his ninth league start of the campaign - also provided an assist for Cody Gakpo, moving him on to 13 goal contributions for the season.

Klopp is confident the manner of Elliott’s strike can help move the midfielder on to another level.

“Harvey is exceptional,”

“Still so young and so exceptional. He was for a long time one of our best players when he was playing on the right wing when Mo (Salah) was injured or at the AFCON.

“But in the midfield position, that’s probably one of his top three or four performances. It was really good.

“His goal was exceptional. Everybody needs moments to gain even more confidence. He is in a good moment but that helps, definitely.

“He worked really hard in the other direction as well.

“The right side with Mo was exceptional as well with Harvey, and then Trent (Alexander-Arnold) can play this role and decide better that he can stay wide as well because we are in the centre footballing-wise well set up.”

Elliott’s goal came when taking a pass from Salah on the edge of the area, drifting sideways across the pitch and hurdling one challenge before smashing a left-footed shot into the far corner

Klopp added

“It was a great game from Harvey and what a goal,”

“During the game you only see it flying in and think ‘good shot’ but I saw it afterwards and there wasn’t a lot of space left and he put it exactly where it should be. Top goal.”
