Jeremie Frimpong will undergo his Liverpool medical next week after jetting in ahead of completing a £30m move from Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
The Reds identified Frimpong as the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave the club at the end of his contract on June 30, and have moved quickly to secure the signature of the Netherlands international.
Leverkusen have been keen to resolve the situation as they continue to search for a successor to head coach Xabi Alonso, who is expected to join Real Madrid,
the existence of a £30m release clause has expedited the deal.
Frimpong had made it clear he would jump at the chance to move to the Premier League champions and with personal terms now agreed, the versatile Oranje defender is close to becoming the first transfer of the summer
It's expected the defender will sign a five-year contract after completing his medical as the new champions move beyond the Alexander-Arnold era on the right side of their back four.
Frimpong moved to Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 from Celtic and has become a vital part of die Werkself's team,
last season Frimpong scored 14 goals alongside a dozen assists as Alonso's team won the Bundesliga without losing.
The speedy wing-back has been less prolific this term, scoring five goals and registering six assists in 33 games,
he was left out of Saturday's 2-2 draw at Mainz in anticipation of his move to Merseyside.
The £30m deal is likely to be viewed as something of a bargain for Liverpool given the age and quality of a Dutch international who was an important part of a Leverkusen squad who won a domestic double last season
The advancement on the deal for Frimpong comes after Conor Bradley put pen to paperon a new, long-term contract at Anfield on Saturday.
It's understood the Northern Ireland international's terms run until June 2029 and is a reward for the progress he has made at first-team level over the past 18 months or so.
Frimpong will become the third signing of Slot and Hughes's time in charge, following on from the £10m deal to secure Federico Chiesa from Juventus last August and the £29m agreement that will see Giorgi Mamardashvili switch from Valencia later this year.
He will become the fourth Dutch international in the Liverpool squad, with Frimpong set to link up with compatriots Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.
