Jeremie Frimpong makes Liverpool goal admission after latest decision - 'I don't care'

Jeremie Frimpong admits he isn't bothered another goal contribution could be taken away from him after helping Liverpool to impressive Champions League victory in Marseille.

Frimpong was integral to the Reds doubling their first-half advantage earned through Dominik Szoboszlai's injury-time free-kick as they ultimately claimed a 3-0 victory on Wednesday evening.

With 18 minutes remaining, the Holland international powered his way into the penalty area and got beyond his marker before his low ball near the byline aimed for Mohamed Salahwas deflected in off home goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

Official statistics mean Frimpong is now unlikely to awarded the assist, similar to crosses that led to goals recently at Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.

And of the strike against Marseille, Frimpong said: "So when I got past him (the defender), I saw Mo, he ran towards the goalkeeper and I just fired it and it hit the guy (Rulli).

"I don't care, it went in, so it's good."

"We played really well, we kept the ball, we created chances and finished them, so I can't complain."

Frimpong also spoke to UEFA.com after the match during which he discussed Liverpool's recent form in general, with a 13-game unbeaten run hampered by too many avoidable draws.

"Against Burnley, we created so many, but we just couldn’t score. That’s football, you have to score to win.

"We’ve got good momentum at the moment, so let’s hope that continues.”

Liverpool will claim a top-eight place and progress directly to the last 16 of the Champions League with victory at home to Qarabag in their final opening stage game next Wednesday.

Frimpong added: “I think everybody wants to finish there. We’ve got Qarabag next week, so hopefully we can go out there and do the same things as we’ve managed to do (in Marseille).”
