Jamie Carragher was left stunned by Caoimhin Kelleher’s late mistake in Liverpool’s dramatic draw with Newcastle.
The Reds looked to be heading for another victory after Mohamed Salah’s double put them 3-2 up at St James’ Park.
Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon had earlier scored either side of a Curtis Jones goal to put the hosts 2-1 up.
With the clock ticking toward 90 minutes though, Kelleher badly misjudged a late Newcastle free-kick, allowing Fabian Schar to sneak behind him and slide the ball home from a tight angle to claim a point.
The result means Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League has now been cut down to seven points, with both Chelsea and Arsenal having won on Wednesday.
Carragher was watching events at St James’ Park unfold from afar, with the former Liverpool defender taking part in a live watchalong for The Overlap alongside Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright
Having earlier celebrated wildly after Salah had put the Reds ahead, Carragher could only look on stunned as Kelleher’s mistake cost Liverpool all three points, with the Sky Sports pundit launching an angry rant.
Carragher
“As a goalie you just catch it, you don’t leave it,”
“What are you doing?
“‘If you can catch it you catch it! As a defender if you can head it you head it. I can’t believe it.
“What was he doing there? What was he doing? I can’t believe he’s not caught the ball. I can’t believe the goalie. I can’t believe he’s not just caught it.”
With Alisson Becker set to return before the end of December, Kelleher may not get too many chances to make up for his error.
Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Everton on Saturday for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
