Jordan Henderson has conceded he found it difficult in Saudi Arabia after completing his move to Ajax.
The former Liverpool captain joined Al-Ettifaq from the Reds in a controversial £12m deal last summer
Henderson called time on his lucrative stint in the Middle East after just six months.
The 33-year-old shared his excitement at joining the Dutch giants. And admitting it had been a crazy week, he alluded to his struggles in the Middle East.
Henderson
"I’m not sure, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind, a crazy few days, but I’m just so excited now to be here,”
“Start a new chapter, a new journey in my life and my career.
“I’m just so excited to be here and be part of this club. Ajax as a football club speaks for itself. World class players that have played here for many, many years.
“Once I knew there was an opportunity, I was over-excited and really just overwhelmed that this opportunity was there for me. It was something that I wanted to try and make happen.
“It’s very humbling for me to be here now, I’m just trying to take it all in really. A special, special day.”
Henderson continued:
“I spoke to a few people at the club, what they want to try and do, why they wanted me to come, what they expect from me, and what they want me to try and help the team with with the experience that I’ve had from my career…
“I still want to perform at a high level on the pitch and that’s the most important thing. I’ve got to come and perform and try and help the team become successful.
Henderson also revealed the role he is expecting to play at Ajax.
“I can both play six and eight,” he said. “I think they’re looking for me to play six and try and link the game as best I can from defence to attack. Do what I’ve done for a while now in that position.”
Liverpool will know no regrets with Klopp’s side currently top of the Premier League table, boasting a lead in the League Cup semi-finals, and through the Europa League knock-out stages and FA Cup fourth round.
