'It hurts' - Dominik Szoboszlai sends emotional message

A distraught Dominik Szoboszlai has opened up on his disappointment after Hungary were denied a place at next summer's World Cup by a 96th-minute Republic of Ireland winner on Sunday.

the Liverpool midfielder has offered an emotional apology to the football fans of his homeland after the heartbreaking 3-2 loss.

Szoboszlai's Hungary were leading 2-1 with 10 minutes to go before Troy Parrott scored his second of the match from the penalty spot before a stoppage-time winner sealed a hat-trick to send the Irish to the play-offs instead.

The in-form Szoboszlai was holding back tears after the game and was visibly upset at the result. And in a social media post on Monday, the Reds' No.8 has attempted to convey his thoughts.

"It hurts," posted Szoboszlai.

"It hurts because we really wanted it! Not only for us but for you too.

“For you, who are always by our side and would accompany us to the end of the world.

"As Team Captain, I'm sorry I didn't make it this time... Very proud of all players, staff and coaches. I love being Hungarian, even when life tests me.

"Someday every detail will fall into place, that's why we work again and again. You are, what is mine.

“We owe you and us a World Cup! The work has begun again. I love you Hungary!"

Szoboszlai is expected to be part of the Liverpool team that entertains Nottingham Forest on November 22.
