Lewis Koumas has admitted he was shocked to leave Liverpool on loan last summer


Koumas revealing the Reds initially intended for the forward to stay put.


The Wales international scored on his debut for the club last season, while he was also a member of the squad that won the League Cup.




The 19-year-old also enjoyed a prolific campaign at Academy level to catch the eye of Jurgen Klopp in the first place,


But after signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool in mid-August, Koumas was then sent on loan to Stoke City for the season



The forward is enjoying an impressive season with the Potters, making 31 appearances so far this season with 24 of his outings coming from the start.


despite catching the eye in the Championship, that has not stopped Koumas from admitting it was a shock to leave Liverpool on loan

"I wasn't to go on loan until maybe January or the next summer," Koumas told Sky Sports. "It was a bit of a shock.


“I'd signed my new long-term deal with Liverpool and it was suddenly just, 'Stoke want you to go in the morning'.


"And I was just out the door and over here straight away. I was lucky the opportunity arose, and then I just came here to try and do my best.


"I felt like I could do it, no matter how old I was or what experience I had. I know what I'm capable of, so it was just about going and showing it.


"I feel like I've coped with the level really well. Obviously it's been a big step up. But I'm really enjoying it."
