Despite seeing his side fall to a fourth consecutive defeat against Manchester United, Liverpool boss Arne Slot remained calm with his players inside the Anfield dressing room.
The Reds’ slump continued as Harry Maguire’s header sentenced them to a 2-1 defeat on Sunday. Liverpool now finds itself four points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, having sat five points ahead of the Gunners just a matter of weeks ago.
The fallout continues following the Reds’ latest defeat, with more concerns being raised over the club’s summer overhaul as the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak struggle to find their feet.
Plenty of Liverpool’s established stars are struggling too, with Mohamed Salah coming in for some heavy criticism after his display against United, as well as Virgil van Dijk.
Slot is reportedly staying calm though, and instead trying to maintain a level-headed approach with his struggling players.
According to the Daily Mail, the Liverpool boss is not getting fazed by the pressure that has been applied by his side’s recent slump,
Slot has encouraged his players to use a strategy employed by cyclist Lance Armstrong “to demoralize his rivals when he was in bad form: smile at the camera, then power ahead up the Alps.”
Slot was also quick to stress how close his side came to earning a draw, taking a slight diversion from his approach of sometimes cutting out negative clips in analysis session in order to not dent players’ confidence.
The Liverpool boss is said to still be at ease with the pressure coming from the media, having insisted in private that the Dutch media is much harder in terms of the questions asked.
Slot will hope his side can finally bounce back when it travels to Germany for its latest Champions League outing against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, with the Dutchman still trying to maintain belief in his players.
Slot
"It is a difficult moment because you know how it works in football. If you lose a game, or two or three or four... the main thing is the players keep believing,"
"If you play a game like this, the players will be in the dressing room saying 'What an amount of chances we had'.
“But you can play the next game where you maybe don't create as much.”
"What I see is they are all really involved. I see everything that is needed to win a game but maybe it is a smart thing we start doing this quite soon."
