Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has fired a message to Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr - just weeks after the Brazilian international's shock revelation about their friendship.

The Hungary captain posted to social media celebrating a pair of football boots from the winger.

Szoboszlai's activity on Instagram came 12 hours after Liverpool's sobering defeat to rock-bottom Wolves, which handed the Reds their latest setback in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Andre's deflected effort in stoppage-time meant that Liverpool missed the chance to go within two points of Manchester United and Aston Villa in third and fourth, respectively.

While their failure to win meant they couldn't move level on points with the two Champions League contenders, should Chelsea beat Aston Villa tonight (Wednesday), Liverpool will slip to sixth.

Szoboszlai's social media post displayed Vinicius' signature boots as the Brazilian continues to release his line of Nike Mercurial Vapor's.

The Hungarian captioned the post: "@Vinijr [fire emoji and hand with index finger and thumb crossed emoji]."

The show comes weeks after Vinicius revealed that he speaks to Szoboszlai regularly. The admission stunned Liverpool supporters, he said: "I talk a lot with Szoboszlai. We met when we were younger.

"[Lucas] Paqueta is my best friend in football.

“Raphinha in Barcelona, Savinho, and Reinier in Brazil, who’s played here too.

“We Brazilians are almost always together off the field, but from other teams who aren’t Brazilian, Reece James - I’m very good friends with him. Rafael Leao, I have quite a few friends outside."

Szoboszlai was sensationally linked with a move to Real Madrid, last month. Vinicius' display of public affection could be viewed as the latest showing from a Real Madrid star to unsettle a potential target.

The midfielder's international manager, Marco Rossi, claimed that Szoboszlai has always dreamt of playing for Los Blancos.

Marco Rossi: “Due to the very close and direct relationship I have had with Dominik Szoboszlai since he started playing football as a child, Real Madrid has always been his dream.

“Since he started playing football, Dominik has had only one dream: to play for Real Madrid.

"I don’t know if he will be able to take that step, because the decision depends on him and also on his club.

“The idea that is always on your mind is to fulfil your dream and make it a reality, and, from my point of view, that is the only and most important thought that can dominate Dominik’s mind.

“However, I do not rule out the possibility of him staying at Liverpool and renewing his contract there, especially as he is highly valued within the club.

“He is a very important player for Liverpool, and Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

The powerhouse has been Liverpool's standout performer in a dismal campaign for Arne Slot as pressure mounts on the Dutchman.

Szoboszlai has popped up with some match-winning moments during a period where the 25-year-old edges towards expiry of his contract.

He has just under two years remaining on his current deal at Anfield and speaking at the beginning of February, he declared his love for the fans and Anfield but was forced to admit no progress has been made.

“Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing, from now on… it is not in my hands. There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let’s see.

“Right now, I am doing my job on the pitch - we will see in the future. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.

“It is not on me. I would love to (stay). We will see. It is always there and back and there and back. Let’s see what happens.”
