The family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva were joined by the Liverpool squad and senior staff at Anfieldearlier today as they gathered at the poignant memorial site that has formed outside the stadium.

Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, were tragically lost in a car crash last Thursday. Just over a week on, fans have laid shirts, scarves and tributes on the grass outside Anfield's Main Stand.

Jota's wife, Rute, was in attendance in L4. The pair had married less than two weeks before the Liverpool striker was involved in the accident and they had three young children together.

Players including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were among the group. So too were new signings Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Others, like Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai, were present, but had also made trips to Anfield already to pay tribute.

"MacJota, our hearts are broken but feeling very grateful for the memories you gave us all!"

"I will miss you, love you brother. Robbo."

The memorial was set up last Thursday and has seen a steady stream of fans — of Liverpool and various other clubs — attend to pay their respects.

Tributes have also come in from all around the world, too, from all corners. And Jota and Silva's former clubs sent messages of support.

Alisson Becker and Luis Diaz, who were unable to attend the funeral service that took place on Saturday, were present here.

They both went to the seventh-day mass for Jota and Silva earlier this week and paid their respects in Portugal.

Liverpool has returned for pre-season training this week and will play its first friendly of the summer on Sunday.

Before that game, tributes to Jota and Silva will be made at Preston North End's Deepdale ground.

You'll Never Walk Alone will be sung before kick-off, and Preston will lay a wreath alongside the away supporters.

A minute's silence will be observed, and both sets of players will wear black armbands.

There is also a commemorative edition of the matchday programme that features written tributes.

That will be distributed for free to those who are in attendance and have a match ticket.

Earlier in the week, coaching staff and players at Wolves also paid their respects to former player Jota.

Head coach Vitor Pereira, accompanied by his team, laid flowers and paused to remember him outside Molineux on Thursday.
