Darwin Nunez ready to take next step for Liverpool with major Luis Suarez hope

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is aiming to emulate Luis Suarez.

Fan favourite Nuinez has clocked up 13 goal contributions in 17 games for the Reds, including his unforgettable brace away at Newcastle.

The 24-year-old added to his goal tally during the international break, scoring in Uruguay’s 2-0 victory over Argentina

Suarez, now playing for Gremio, has been recalled to the national team setup and Nunez has enjoyed learning from the 36-year-old.

Nunez

"Celebrating with Luis is something very nice and special,"

"He is the nine of Uruguay, the one who made history. I always try to follow in his footsteps."

"Luis is very important for this group that we have. He is a player with a lot of experience that he already had a lot in the national team.

"It's nice that he is here, that he contributes to the [younger] ones and that we learn from him."

Uruguay are coached by former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and the manager has been instructing him to run in behind defences.

Nunez adds

"He is a coach who has things very clear. He asks us to apply strong pressure, all together from the back to the front.

"What he tells us we try to apply on the playing field and that is what we have been doing

"What caught my attention the most is that (he asked me to) run behind the centre-backs. It is a very big demand for a forward.

"But I am adapting to the game that Marcelo wants. I try to apply what he asks of me."
