Liverpool were dealt an injury worry when it was confirmed that Darwin Nunez would not go on international duty.
The Reds striker appeared to suffer the injury during Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on March 15. As a result, Nunez will not feature for Uruguay during the international break.
What Jurgen Klopp has said about Darwin Nunez after Madrid
Jurgen Klopp was asked about Nunez’s situation following the defeat to Real Madrid.
Klopp; “Darwin looked like he was not at the absolute top level as well and we needed to defend that side as well,”
“We could change and we wanted to mix things up a bit.”
Uruguay decision on Darwin Nunez
"Darwin Núñez will not participate due to injury and instead, the interim technical director of the Uruguayan team, Marcelo Broli, called Jonathan Rodríguez,"
"Uruguay will face the local team on March 24 at the National Stadium in Japan and four days later, on the 28th, they will play at the Seoul World Cup Stadium against South Korea."
Possible Darwin Nunez return date
At this stage, there has been nothing concrete on the severity of the injury other than it’s seemingly enough not to risk Nunez by him featuring in the international friendlies.
Liverpool travel to face Manchester City on April 1, and Klopp always likes players to take full part of at least two training sessions before being eligible to play.
