Cody Gakpo had to contend with Curtis Jones gatecrashing his latest interview as the Dutchman spoke to LFC TV over in Hong Kong.
Liverpool arrived in Asia on Monday for the start of their pre-season tour of the Far East.
The Reds will take on AC Milan at Kai Tak Sports Park on Saturday 26 July.
They will then travel to Japan to face Yokohama F. Marinos in the second and final game of their tour at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday 30 July.
Following their arrival in Hong Kong, Liverpool took part in their first on-field training session of the tour on Tuesday (July 22).
And speaking after the session Gakpo, soon found himself cheekily interrupted by Jones.
“He’s an incredible player,” Jones could be heard saying as he approached Gakpo and the cameras.
“Probably the fastest in the team, one of the strongest, got the best technique, yeah, yeah, yeah, Cody Gakpo.”
“Oh my god!” Gakpo laughed. “Thanks Curt, thanks Curt!”
However, the Dutchman had previously ‘disagreed’ with such a claim earlier in the interview as he sung the praises of his new Liverpool team-mate, Jeremie Frimpong.
“[He will bring] a lot. I think he has a lot of quality,” Gakpo said of his compatriot. “But I think one of his biggest qualities is he is maybe already the fastest player on the team.
“He is very fast, he has a good cross, he can defend, he can attack. I think he can help us a lot.”
Frimpong has certainly shown his pace already during pre-season following his £29.5m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Dutchman even combining with Gakpo to assist Federico Chiesa after bursting down the right in Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Stoke City on Sunday.
Frimpong is not the only new Dutch arrival at Anfield this summer, with Netherlands legend Giovanni van Bronckhorst taking over as John Heitinga as Arne Slot’s new assistant coach.
And Gakpo admits he is curious about working alongside his compatriot.
Gakpo
“As a player, he has a lot of experience. And also as a manager,”
“I think he can teach us a lot from what he experienced in his career, as a player and as a manager.
“He has a lot to tell how it was as a player and the teams he played in, so I think everybody is very curious [about] what he has for us.”
