Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Arsenal was a memorable day for Trent Alexander-Arnold, but for all the wrong reasons.

The boyhood Red would be hoping to depart as an Anfield icon, but was instead booed and jeered by the very same supporters that have cheered him on over the past nine years.

Playing at Anfield for the first time since officially announcing he will leave the club, Alexander-Arnold was the target of an adverse reaction from fans inside the stadium before, during and after the Premier League fixture against the Gunners.

Many were evidently unhappy that the 26-year-old has opted to seek out a new challenge instead of adding to his silverware and legacy in his local area.

that new challenge is all-but confirmed to be with Real Madrid, where he would join fellow Englishman Jude Bellingham at the Spanish giants and if rumours are to be believed, they will be working under a new coach - former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Real, currently working under Carlo Ancelotti, suffered a huge blow to their aspirations of winning the La Liga title on Sunday by losing El Clasico to Barcelona.

It leaves them stranded seven points off their league-leading rivals with only three matches to go.

After the result, Ancelotti said:

“They did well. Every chance we had up front was clear because we attacked well behind them.

"We scored three, and we were offside twice. In attack, we had clear ideas, but I don't think we defended well,"

"We mustn't forget that we were missing five defenders, we mustn't forget that."

The three goals conceded in the first half all came from errors from Real players, with the third from Raphinha occurring as Lucas Vazquez allowed acres of space for the attacker to run into.

The 33-year-old plays as a makeshift full-back whilst Dani Carvajal has been injured in the position Alexander-Arnold would be fully expected to slot into.

That would involve Liverpool permitting an early release of the England international from his contract in exchange for a small fee.

It is blatant that Real's needs become heightened week upon week, staring a trophy-less season directly in the face.
