Ian Wright says it will only take a "calamitous mistake" for Liverpool to miss out on the Premier League title

Arne Slot's side are six points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand on the second-placed Gunners.

Wright, who scored 185 goals for Arsenal, has made no secret of his desire to see his old side lift their first title in 21 years

Mikel Arteta's side managed to close the gap on the Reds with a resounding 5-1 victory over Manchester City at the Emirates on Sunday.

But after Liverpool beat a Bournemouth side that has overcome Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United this season

Wright isn't convinced that Arteta's side will be able to go on and win the title.

Wright said: “That's what's great about Liverpool. When you're going for the title, you win games like that. We saw what happened with Nunez against Brentford.

"Bournemouth are playing very well. But Liverpool, we know how good they are.

"They just seem so in control, this is why people are saying they look so comfortable, they look like they’re in go-mode, I can’t see who is going to make them stumble, it’s going to have to be some calamitous mistake or something from Liverpool, I just can’t see it."

Wright says Arsenal's inability to sign a striker in the January transfer window could be fatal as they try to chase down Liverpool.

Wright added:

"We needed a number nine when everyone was fit. Trying to get Ollie Watkins was something they should have been doing.

“When you look at how Arsenal played (vs City), if you have got as number nine, like Haaland, that's what we need and that gets you to build yourself in the game."
