Bayern Munich star called Florian Wirtz about Liverpool form as 'doubt' message shared

Joshua Kimmich has revealed he has reached out to Florian Wirtz as his Germany team-mate continues to endure a mixed start to his Liverpool career.

The Reds fought off interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Man City to sign the playmaker from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £116m this summer.

However, with Arne Slot’s side struggling for form, the 22-year-old is yet to justify his hefty price tag. The reigning Premier Leaguechampions have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions, and now trail league-leaders Arsenal by seven points.

Meanwhile, Wirtz is yet to register a goal contribution in the English top-flight. Making 13 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions to date, he registered an assist on his debut in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace, but had to wait until last week’s 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt to add to his tally.

Wirtz found himself benched for recent Premier League clashes with Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United, and has inevitably come in for criticism for his below-par displays since moving to Anfield.

But Germany captain Kimmich has leapt to the defence of his compatriot, as he revealed he recently shared a phone call with the midfielder following his slow start in England and shared his advice for Wirtz.

“But there's absolutely no reason for him to doubt himself.

“Flo has the perfect blend of quality and mentality that will always lead you to the top as a player in the long run.

“He has to remain patient and, of course, is also dependent on his team."

“He will have his reasons for making this decision," he conceded back in June. "I hope it's the right path for him.

"As a Bayern player, I would have naturally wanted him to come to us."
