Diogo Jota is a doubt for Liverpool's Premier League visit to Brentford on Saturday after suffering a fresh injury setback
Jota came off the bench to score with his first touch to earn the Reds a point in their 1-1 Premier League draw at fellow title contenders Nottingham Forest in midweek.
The striker set alarms ringing when he was absent from training on Thursday with initial indications being the player was continuing his individual programme
Arne Slot has admitted Jota - who now has eight goals in 19 appearances this campaign - now faces a race against time to be fit for the trip to Brentford
Slot
“There's no doubt about the fact that Jota is an important player for us,"
"He was not in training yesterday so we have to see today where he is.”
"It's not sure that he will be available for tomorrow. We have to wait and see, He felt a little niggle during the half-hour he was in (against Forest), he could finish the game but he afterwards he complained a bit about it.”
"That's why he didn't train on Thursday. We have to see if he is available today and tomorrow."
Of Jota's individual training programme, Slot added:
“Not because it's Jota, every single player has an individual programme.
“I've said before that 80-90% of the things are the same for players. But every individual has things he wants to improve or to prevent him from maybe getting a certain injury he may have had in the past.”
"Of course, there is an eye on him (Jota) doing some individual work to prevent him from getting injured, but that's not only with him.
“With all the others it's the same. There is a special programme for him as there is for every single player.
While Liverpool wait on Jota, they will be able to welcome back Darwin Nunez after the Uruguayan served a one-match suspension on Tuesday.
Luis Diaz also missed training on Thursday with a sore throat, although Slot is expecting the winger to be available for Saturday.
