Arne Slot makes plea to Liverpool supporters as he reacts to viral Jurgen Klopp video

Arne Slot has admitted supporters have already sung his chant at him after a video of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp went viral.

After his final match as Reds manager, Klopp addressed Anfield and reworked one of his own chants in tribute to his would-be successor.

“If you give a s*** about what I want you to sing, actually, I have an idea,”

“I heard the song (I'm So Glad) today a few times and you can do that, I am fine with that but let's now see what the response will be to this: Arne Slot! La la la la. Arne Slot! La la la.

"Now imagine it next season where you are not waiting to see how it starts, no, you run into it and with a new manager you go all in.

“And you keep believing, which is what you do, you can push the team. Get on your toes before we score, I say we because I am one of you now. I love you to bits."

Slot was shown the video of Klopp during his first interview as Liverpool’s new head coach

Slot admitted he can’t recall a departing manager ever welcoming his successor in such a way.

Following Klopp’s modest example by requesting supporters serenade the club’s players rather than him, the Dutchman also revealed how he found out about his predecessor’s gesture - and the impact it made back in the Netherlands!

“I do think that I know what you are going to show me now!”

“Just after it happened I got a lot of text messages from people who saw this and who were sending it to me.

“Yeah, I think this is probably one of the reasons why he is so popular over here, because of course he won the trophies but to do this for your successor.

“I don’t think it has ever happened before that the fans, let alone the former manager, are singing your name before you have even arrived.

“So, I think this says the most about him and I am hoping, hoping, that then fans will sing in the upcoming season again - maybe not my name but a little bit more for the players.

“But sometimes when I am in Zwolle now, where I live, people pass my house and are singing this song! So, it did have an impact already!”

Slot also had a further message for supporters as he vowed to leave Liverpool in the best possible way.

"There is a change but the change hopefully isn't that big,"

"Because we still have the same players, we still have the same fans - and if the both of them are going to do the same job, that will make my life a lot more easy!

"I'm expecting them to show up again in the upcoming season, and the same for the players. I will do everything within my interest and power to lead the team in the best possible way."
