Slot, believes Nunez is the man he wants to lead the Reds attack
There has been talk this summer Liverpool were interested in bringing Newcastle's Anthony Gordon to Anfield in a move that would have seen Joe Gomez or Jarell Quansah head in the opposite direction.
While a swap deal involving Gomez was reportedly discussed between the two, Liverpool opted against making a move for Gordon, in part due to their stacked forward line right now
On the left wing alone, the boast Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and even Nunez - although the Guardian report Slot sees the latter as an out and out striker.
And while Liverpool boast plenty of options out wide, when it comes to centre-forwards, they only really have Nunez and Jota as options
Gakpo was often utilised there by Klopp but his best position looks to be operating off the left-wing where he can cut inside onto his stronger right foot.
Nunez has endured mixed fortunes so far during his two years on Merseyside
Signed from Benfica back in 2022, Nunez arrived at Anfield for a club record fee of $110million (£85m/€100m), a figure that many believed would see him score a ton of goals for the Reds.
His first season saw him net 15 goals in all competitions in 42 appearances
While that return is not disastrous, given the outlay, Liverpool had hoped for more
In terms of output, last term was much better, with Nunez scoring 18 goals and registering 13 assists in all competition for Liverpool.
But despite the improvement, the 25-year-old still blew hot and cold far too often.
Perhaps the most infuriating thing about Nunez's game at the moment is that on his day, he is absolutely unplayable - you just never know when that day will come.
It will be up to Slot to get the best out of Nunez this season.
The pair have had little time to work together so far this summer with Nunez being afforded an extended holiday due to playing for Uruguay at the Copa America.
