Arne Slot addresses threat of Liverpool firing as season hits new low against PSV

Arne Slot insists he is not worried for his future as Liverpool boss despite the shock 4-1 thrashing to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Liverpool has now lost nine of its last 12 matches across all competitions and was well beaten by the Dutch side at Anfield,

just days after Nottingham Forest's comfortable victory in the Premier League.

The defeat has added to the pressure on the Liverpool boss, who lifted the title just months ago.

And while he is expected to retain the full support of the board, some supporters have called for a change in the dugout.

Speaking after the game, Slot was asked if he feared for his future, saying: "No, I am not worried. My focus is on other things than worrying about my own position.

"I’ve been feeling safe. I’ve got a lot of support from above. They are helpful to me but they don’t phone me every single minute of the day to tell me they trust me. I feel the trust but I haven’t spoken to them after this game."

Reds legend Steven Gerrard sympathized with Slot after the game on TNT Sports but said the boss must accept the scrutiny he will find himself in.

Gerrard added: "That's the world we live in, that's football in the modern day. I've been in that position myself.

"You understand that if you're not getting the results, there is going to be serious questions asked, stewards inquiry, that comes with the territory especially at the top end."

Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman said:

"I think it's far too early, what he's achieved and where he is now this year, that's a good run of fixtures."

Gerrard also tipped Slot to turn things around. The former Rangers boss replied:

Gerrard"I agree Macca, from me and you because we lived through it and suffered. I've been both sides. It's going to come."

Jamie Carragher also had his say on the chances of Slot being fired and believes some fans will have now seen enough.

Carragher said: "Liverpool doesn’t notoriously, or historically I should say, change managers, especially ones who won a league title.

“I don’t think Liverpool has ever changed a manager in its history who won a league title.”

“But I think there will be a lot of supporters tonight thinking, you know, is it at that stage, yeah? And you just cannot believe you’re saying something like that when you consider what happened in the manager’s first season, which was absolutely out of this world.”
