Peter Crouch believes England international Anthony Gordon has the "selfish streak" to replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool next season.
Salah confirmed last week he will leave Anfieldat the end of the season on a free transfer after nine years at the club during which he has become their third-highest goalscorer in history.
Liverpool have subsequently been linked with a raft of potential new signings on the right flank as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
former Liverpool striker Crouch believes Gordon - who was close to moving to Anfield from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 - would represent a good move for the Reds.
Crouch
“It’ll be a very different Liverpool,"
"Mo’s achieved everything at Liverpool and deserves this opportunity to try something else.
"But for Liverpool, how do you replace him? Last season he had more than 40 goals and assists (combined). It’s just impossible to replace without spending over £100million.
“Michael Olise has been mentioned, who I think would be a class act, but he’s already at a top club in Bayern Munich."
Of Gordon, Crouch said: "He can go to a new level. He’s definitely the type of player that would be amazing for the club. He’s a Scouser coming back to the city, it’d be amazing.
“I think he’s got that selfish streak all the great attackers have that I really like. It reminds me of Salah a little bit. If he can get goals he’d be a great profile of player (to target).
“Thinking he could come back to his city, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did (want the move). Newcastle is such a great club and he’ll be enjoying his football there, but moving to Liverpool would be massive for him and his family.”
Speaking exclusively to Paddy Power, Crouch believes Salah has chosen the right time to leave despite still being able to contribute to Arne Slot's side.
Crouch
“I understand the decision to leave," he said. "He’s struggled a fair bit this season and maybe his head’s not right.
“He’s had his differences with Arne Slot. It’s been a difficult season and for how he’d like to be remembered (by Liverpool fans), he won’t want to outstay his welcome.”
“He would have still scored goals for Liverpool and potentially have won more trophies, but it’s probably the right time to move on.”
