Mohamed Salah might have signed a new contract with Liverpool earlier this month, but the Reds are still anticipated to make changes to their attacking ranks this summer.

Darwin Nunez could move on, with Arne Slot in the market for a new number nine.

But there could be further changes depending on departures, with Luis Diaz, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota’s futures all subject of transfer speculation too.

Diaz, who was also heavily linked with an exit last season, is attracting known interest from Saudi Arabia

The Reds agreed a £75m deal in principle with Newcastle United to sign Anthony Gordon, which would have seen Joe Gomez move the other way in a £45m switch

However, the Magpies ultimately pulled the plug at the end of June after raising funds elsewhere to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Gordon, who is a boyhood Liverpool supporter and spent time in the Reds academy prior to joining Everton, went on to sign a new long-term contract with Newcastle last October.

while the Magpies look set to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the 24-year-old continues to be linked with a possible move to Anfield in the future.

the forward has just offered a reminder of his Liverpool allegiances when taking part in a roommates quiz with Reds star and close-friend Curtis Jones

When asked who Gordon's footballing idol was, Jones correctly guessed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Gordon

“Correct, Stevie G,”

“I think every Scouser’s idol, isn’t he?”

Gordon previously made in an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap last year, saying:

“Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”

Gordon boasts a respectable individual record against his boyhood club.

Making four starts for the Magpies against the Reds, he scored in both of the last two meetings between the sides at St. James’ Park

Often coming up against Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jones deliberately overlooked his team-mate when asked to pick who Gordon considered the most difficult right-back

the Liverpool midfielder revealed that the trio had joked amongst themselves about the previous clashes between the pair.

Jones

“When we’ve played against Ant, we’ve obviously spoken as a three about when Ant’s been against him and all things like that,”

“We’ve always had a joke about it. So, I’m not going to go Trent!”

Gordon also shared his frustration with Jones as he teased that he blames the Liverpool midfielder for him missing out on the Golden Boot when England Under-21s won the European Championships in 2023.

Gordon

“Yeah, obviously we won’t get into that. That was nearly the end of the friendship!” he replied when reminded of one opening in the final where Jones went it alone rather than pass to his team-mate.

“Cost me a Golden Boot!

“I said to him before the game, I’ll never forget it, ‘I’m on two, I need a goal to win the Golden Boot.’ Top scorer.

“We were running through on a counter-attack, three vs two, he’s running through the middle, right? Centre mid, number six and he’s running through the middle.

“I’m to his left. Left-winger, coming on to shots, inside finesse shot. He looks at me, just bangs it with his left foot. Their keeper just saves it. Finish the game.”

“That was poor!” Jones laughed in agreement.

With the two close-friends team-mates on international duty, only time will tell if such a link-up is ever replicated on the club stage at Liverpool.
