Andy Robertson has admitted Jamie Carragher has been 'getting a bit of stick' in the Liverpool changing room this week following his criticism of Mohamed Salah
The defender made the admission in a jovial exchange involving Carragher following the 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.
On Monday, Carragher had warned Salah of being “selfish” for expressing his frustration over the fact Liverpool had yet to formally table him a new contract.
The Egyptian had admitted he was “disappointed” at the lack of an offer.
Salah is eager to stay at Liverpool and that talks with his agent, Ramy Abbas, are ongoing. However, a conclusion has yet to be reached.
Carragher - who said he was “desperate” to see Salah extend his stay - wasn’t impressed by the timing of his comments
Carragher
“I must say I am very disappointed with Salah. In the seven years he’s been at the football club, he stopped in the mixed zone twice.
"Which is his right and is absolutely fine. But he decided to stop for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool in the game and putting that out.
“Now, the most important thing for Liverpool this season is not the future of Salah. It’s not the future of Virgil van Dijk and it’s not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League - that is more important than any of those players.
“If he continues to put comments out or his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that’s selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
Carragher was part of a post-match interview with Robertson for American broadcasters CBS following Wednesday’s triumph over Real
Robertson was asked what the dressing room’s reaction to Carragher’s comments had been.
Robertson
“He’s been getting a bit of stick in the changing room that’s for sure!” he confessed while laughing.
When probed for more, the left-back added: “No comment, I think I’ll leave that!”
Robertson went on to reason: “I think he [Carragher] gets paid to do his job, I think you all do.
“It’s part and parcel of football, he has to give his opinion and whether we agree with it or not, sometimes, is a different story.”
