Andy Robertson has sent a heartfelt message to outgoing assistant manager John Heitinga following confirmation of his exit from the club.
It was confirmed on Saturday that Arne Slot’s assistant manager had left his post at Anfield to replace Francesco Farioli as head coach of Ajax.
Heitinga started his playing career with the Dutch club and also had an interim spell in charge in 2023.
It leaves Liverpool and Slot on the lookout for a new assistant manager with several named expected to be in the frame.
Heitinga arrived at Anfield alongside Slot last season and played a big part in the club lifting their 20th top flight title.
Responding to his appointment, the former defender told the official Ajax website:
Heitinga
"I am incredibly excited to start. The last years in England have done me a lot of good.
“I've been able to develop further alongside David Moyes and Arne Slot, while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at two major clubs.
“I’m ready to continue as a head coach and I'm honoured to be given that opportunity at Ajax."
Following the news of his departure, Robertson has taken to social media to give his reaction.
On his Instagram story, he shared a picture of him and Heitinga during last week’s bus parade.
He then added a message reading: “Success this season wouldn’t of (sic) been possible without you!! Good luck legend johnheitinga.”
It comes amid some uncertainty surrounding Robertson’s own future at Liverpool beyond the summer.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkes this summer, which is likely to push Robertson down the pecking order at Anfield.
Reflecting on the season, Robertson hinted that his future may lie away from the club.
Robertson said:
"Obviously, the club are going to have a busy summer, so we need to see where everyone stands,"
Robertson admitted. "But it's been a special time here, I loved my time here.
"It's been eight special years, and I've cherished every moment I've played in front of these fans, especially at Anfield. Today was special."
