Sir Kenny Dalglish has called for more patience around Liverpool's underperforming season, insisting the 3-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup last week can now become the blueprint to follow.

Arne Slot's side have lost eight Premier League games to leave themselves in a fight for a place in next season's Champions League

the Reds heading into the weekend's fixtures two points behind Chelsea, in fifth, and three below Manchester United, who currently occupy fourth.

As a result, head coach Slot has seen his position called into questions at times this term, particularly around late November when the side suffered their ninth defeat in 12 across a two-month period.

The legendary Dalglish, who is regarded as one of the most revered figures in the club's history, believes more backing needs to be given, however, and he pinpointed the performance against the Seagulls last weekend as a reference point for the team to follow for the remainder of the campaign.

Dalglish

“It’s always easier to criticise someone than it is to praise them,"

"There’s a lot less patience these days and that’s a problem. If you don’t have patience, it’s unlikely you’ll have success.

“Nothing just grows overnight. Nobody has ever walked into a club and won a trophy straightaway. Everyone has an opinion but things could be a bit more constructive at times.

“The way we were brought up, it was all about the next game. Don’t look any further ahead than that. Liverpool’s last game was excellent. If we can put on performances like that most weeks, we’ll have a lot of pluses.”

Liverpool return to action when they are entertained by Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.
