Mohamed Salah has called on world leaders to come together and prevent the "further slaughter of innocent souls" as conflict continues in Gaza.

On Tuesday night at least 500 people were killed in a hospital bombing in Gaza City, which Jerusalem says the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group was responsible for.

That occurred after tensions in the Middle East had risen in recent weeks after an attack by the Hamas group in Israel earlier this month.

in a personal intervention on his social media accounts, Salah has called on leaders across the world to ensure the conflict between Israel and Palestine spares the lives of further innocent civilians.

Salah said:

"It's not always easy to speak at a time like this, there has been too much violence and too much heartbreak and brutality."

"The escalation in recent weeks is unbearable to witness. All lives are sacred and must be protected.

"The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart.

"What's clear now is that humanitarian aid to Gaza must be allowed immediately, the people there are in terrible conditions.

"The scenes at the hospital last night were horrifying.

"The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently.

"I'm calling on world leaders to come together to prevent the further slaughter of innocent souls. Humanity must prevail."
