Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have disagreed on whether VAR should be scrapped in the Premier League
The fallout is continuing from the game between Spurs and Liverpool on Saturday evening
For Diaz’s goal, the PGMOL admitted immediately after Tottenham's 2-1 win that 'a significant human error' occurred during the review.
It also emerged that the VAR incorrectly thought the on-field decision was that a goal had been awarded, when in fact it had not been
This has prompted plenty of debate around whether VAR should be scrapped
While Richards believes the time has come to do away with the technology, Lineker still believes it has a place in the game.
Lineker
"I honestly think that most fans, particularly those that go to the stand, would absolutely say 'let's ban it',"
"I still think it can be a good thing. Sometimes I get very frustrated by it and think 'How can you make such mistakes?'
"It would perhaps be better without it because we'd still analyse mistakes, but you'd kind of be a little more forgiving if a referee makes an error than perhaps somebody who's shown 20 replays of a decision.
"Most of the time, they probably get it right. The truth is, whatever we think, it's not going to be scrapped; they've invested too much in it; it's worldwide; they've spent fortunes on it; and overall, you get more correct decisions.
"What I think will help is, we need more communication. We need the fans to hear the communication, the talk between the referee on the field and the VAR. Then I think people will understand it more; we've seen it in other sports, it works perfectly well.
"I do not understand why we're not hearing the conversations between the referees and the VAR. Then they can be calmer about things, everyone will want to listen, it will also make more entertainment and that's ultimately what football should be. That would seriously help things."
Richards then responded: "I would scrap it. Goal-line technology I would obviously keep, but VAR has just become a nonsense. We discussed the offsides, you could have the semi-automated ones if you really wanted to. Scrap VAR, scrap it."
