Responding to a claim made that he would want to wear Liverpool's number 10 shirt, Florian Wirtz has used social media to hit back, thus acknowledging transfer links to the club for the very first time.
The number is has been worn by fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for the past two seasons.
Liverpool last had a £109m offer rejected for Wirtz but talks continue with Leverkusen over a deal that looks like it will extend closer to their €150m (£126m) valuation.
Throughout this time the player himself has been training with the German national team, kept out of the spotlight whilst negotiations progress.
But it would appear Wirtz has remained attentive to media coverage around his potential move and has chosen to respond to one specific claim made in relation to possibly joining the Reds this summer.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg had made claims on Monday that Wirtz, who has donned the number 10 shirt at Leverkusen, would demand the same number to wear at Anfield.
The obstacle in that path is Mac Allister, the Argentine having taken the vacant number upon his £35m arrival from Brighton in summer 2023.
Now Wirtz has issued an incredible response to Plettenberg, taking to his Instagram story to write:

"Who says I want the [ten emoji] I respect players.
"Don't believe everything what's written [clown emoji]."
